Seniors Relying More on Social Security
The golden years appear to be not as golden anymore for many seniors. A report by AARP indicates seniors are relying more than ever on social security.
(KSL News) - Utah seniors need their social security checks more than ever. A new report by AARP indicates social security is hardly "extra income."
AARP Associate State Director Laura Polacheck says, "This would mean that Social Security which is more of a fixed benefit comprises a higher and higher percentage of their income."
She says without social security, nearly 40-percent of Utah seniors over 65 would be living below the poverty line. Cuts in benefits at work, and higher health costs are also hurting older workers.
