Nassau County: Lowest Prices On Drugs For Seniors
As the prices of prescription drugs continue to escalate and seniors on fixed incomes struggle to pay for them, Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias (D-North Massapequa) is trying to make shopping for the best prices a bit easier. Recently Legislator Mejias announced an initiative that allows residents to get the best deal for their money when shopping for the most commonly prescribed drugs simply by logging onto to his website http://www.co.nassau.ny.us/legislat/14.HTM and clicking on the link for www.nyagrx.com.
"Retail prices for prescribed medications can vary greatly among pharmacies just a few miles apart," said Legislator Mejias. "Adding this link to my website will offer residents the opportunity to shop around and save money without actually having to leave the house."
The website, www.nyagrx.com, was originally launched by the New York State Attorney General’s office in an effort to offer residents cost saving tips and links to public and private programs that offer discounted or free medications. At the present time, the website includes more than 2,000 pharmacies across New York State that compare prices of the 150 most commonly prescribed drugs that state law requires pharmacies to disclose to you upon request. Prescription drug information is easily accessed by typing in the zip code or the county a person lives in. The website only provides information on prices and drugs cannot be purchased via the website.
"Who needs the inconvenience of traveling from pharmacy to pharmacy in search of the best prices? Just visit http://www.co.nassau.ny.us/legislat/14.HTM and click on the link for www.nyagrx.com, and the information you need to get the cheapest prescription drugs is available at your finger tip," he added.
In addition, Legislator Mejias wants senior citizens to know that if they do not own a computer, or do not have internet access, they can visit the closest public library or call 516-571-6214 for more information.
